Lasik eye surgery?
Question:
-5.0 diopters for my left eye.Has anybody had lasik done? How long ago? Cost? Any complications? How well can you see?
Answer:
i had lasic done almost 4 years ago with GREAT results!my vision was terrible before surgery, my prescription was -7.75 and -8.00. i was 40 at the time of surgery, been wearing glasses since i was 8 yrs old. the surgery at that time cost was around $2000,but i would pay a hundred times that!i had no complications and can now see 20/20! congrats and let me know how it turns out! you're gonna LOVE IT!
$ 5000 Canadian
I had - 6
no complications
just need artificial tear eyedrops often for a few weeks
and night-time vision reading highway road signs is a real challenge at the beginning, but it gets better and better with time, normal good vision eventually
My best friend had it about 5 yrs. ago & paid $4000. No problems-loves it.
I have heard of a few people who have had great results,
but I have also heard of serveral horror stories. Although, those are all more than 10 yrs old.
Also, when I was in the Air Force over 10 years ago, I heard that having that surgery was grounds for being discharged.
I think they have improved considerably over the years, but I would suggest being careful and researching it completely before you hand over your vision to someone who could leave you blind for the rest of your life.
Do some research and make sure you trust the doctor before you go through with it, don't make a mistake that you will regret for the rest of your life.
I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide!
After many years of contemplation, I took the Lasik plunge after becoming friends with an Optometrist. He sent me to probably THE best surgeon in my city. I had my surgery July 6th and it's been astounding. I had 20/15 & 20/30 the next day; I am now at 20/20 in each eye. I had very bad astigmatism on top of extreme nearsightedness(20/200 & 20/400).
As I am in my late 40's, I still have to have "granny glasses". If I choose, I could do monovision with a single contact. By the time you're of the age to need reading glasses, they'll have some procedure perfected.
My cost, including follow up visits, ran a little over $5K. I had IntraLase-initiated LASIK performed, which is done with a laser. Everyone's eyes are different and the blade method is still an effective surgical procedure. All of my various friends who have had Lasik have had no problems but they also used well known surgeons.
Your fee seems awfully low ... how much research have you done on Lasik procedures and the Dr. who will be performing the surgery? I'm all for getting a great deal but there are times that it doesn't pay to bargain shop. Good luck!

I have had LASIK done and I also work @ the LASIK center where I've had it done. I did my surgery about 2 years ago now. I didn't have any complications. My correction was very close to yours. If you have large pupils, did the doctor recommend Wavefront (sometimes called Custom Cornea or Personal LASIK)? Usually if you have larger pupils, you have a chance for nighttime vision side effects such as halos, glaring or starbursts. Wavefront may be more expensive but it's much more custom to the eyes.
