LASIK eye surgery, to do or not to do?

Question:
I've been thinking hardly about getting my eye sight corrected by LASIK eye surgery, but am really worried about the side effect (if any) and the worst case i've heard, lose of vision. Anybody can share their experience/info/advice with me? Thanks!

Answer:
I work for a LASIK and cataract surgeon so I feel I can give you some advise.

The majority of complications associated with LASIK surgery involve the process of making the flap on the cornea. In LASIK there are two main methods for making the flap. One is with a devise called a microkeratome, which is basically a blade that is used to cut a flap in the cornea. The other devise is a femtosecond laser called Intralase that is used to make a flap.

It is proven that the Intralase system greatly reduses the accuracy of making the flap and the chances of any significant complications with the surgery.

So the main thing that I would recommend is going with a doctor that uses Intralase rather then a microkeratome. You should be able to find a doctor doing this in most major metropolitan areas.

And also don't settle for the bargain basement LASIK centers. In life, you get what you pay for. And do you really want to buy a surgery that's on sale?

Well good luck on your decision. LASIK is definately not for everyone, but it is amazing for those that qualify for it!
Its laser not lasik i think

Yes for the main part it is safe just go to a recomended practice
I've known a couple people who've had it done and been very pleased with it.

The only drawback I know of is that the long term effects are not yet known, since it's a relatively new procedure.
Sorry I don't remember my sources but the info was enough to dissuade me from lasik. Only a handful of doctors go through this procedure. It could be they themselves find this risky. Why don't you try natural vision improvement or Bates method?
My brother, my sister, and my brother-in-law have all had it done with great success. The brother-in-law was practically blind and it has worked great. None of them use glasses or contacts anymore. The cost saved in this over your life will pay for the operation. (till you get old and they go the other way)

I hear it is very rare for problems to occur, ensure you are going to a reputable outlet to do so.
I've checked into both and talked to people who hae had both. I've decided against it. The comedian who was on Extreme Makeover has said on TV she is losing vision in one eye. I think I'll wait. Another friend still needs to wear glasses because one of her eyes is losing vision.
i have performed lasik operation 7 years ago it really chang my life i have had glasses and lenses for about 13 years.. it was really hard for me to tolorate glasses any more but my visual aquality was -7 myopic and i connot do any thing without glass so i go to an experienced ophtamologist and ask him alot of questions about doing or not doing it i consider all the worst thing that may happen speak with many patients that had got the best results or the whom which were complicated i found that for me the risk was low iwas myopic i have no astigmatisem i was above25y/o my visual aquality was not changed for the past 3 years so i go to operation room and it was so easier than i expect and heels so fast and i am really happy for my nicest dicision that i have ever had in my life everything has changed for me . good luck for you too
OK I've done abit of optometry so hopefully this helps. I think it depends on your prescription, personally if I was -4.00 or worse I think I would go for it because the difference can be extrodinary. If under this I would be more hesitant just because eye surgery is developing at an incredible rate and if you waited a few years there might be a much less invasive technique with more accurate results.

Incidently in terms of side effects most of the things you hear on the news are about a slighly different technique they used until about 2 years, it's much less invasive now and side effects are much more unlikely, also the people I know who have had it have have only said good things about it!
