Can albinos get lasik surgery?
Question:
Answer:
Albinos can get Lasik laser eye surgery, but there are many additional considerations.
Those affected by albinism are also often affected by nystagmus, the rapid involuntary movement of the eye. Nystagmus can cause a delay or limit in the neurological development of vision. They eyes' optics may be fine, but the brain does not use those optics fully.
The most anyone can expect from Lasik is vision after surgery without glasses to be equal to vision before surgery with glasses - and that outcome is not guaranteed. If your vision is limited due to neurological reasons, Lasik is not going to provide any better vision than what you have now with glasses, and may provide worse vision.
It would be an absolute requirement that any laser used for Lasik on someone with nystagmus would have a tracking system that could adjust to the rapid eye movements.
