Lasik eye surgery?

Question:
is it worth it? im 20 am i old enough for it? what is the average cost of having it done? my 90 year old great grandma has better vision then me lol

Answer:
Everyone I know who has had it done LOVES it.

It's around $750/eye (varies). Most places offer financing options so you can make payments. It will probably cost more in California than it does in Wyoming (as with everything).

Your age should be fine, so long as it's been at least 2 years since your prescription changed. That is, you have NOT needed to change to weaker or stronger lenses in the last two years.
my best friend just got it done...this past thursday as a matter of fact. she's 36. and she loved it! it cost her about 4 grand. but she said it is totally worth is. and i don't think you have to be a certain age. infact, i think you will enjoy it longer. the dr. told her that if she starts having problems later on, it's not because of bad surgery, it's just old age. so go for it girl! and enjoy it while you can!
Industry sources report that the average LASIK price in late 2006 was about $1,950. In 2007, LASIK and laser-based procedures charged at a single price (no extra charges added on for new technologies) cost an average $2,099

Take this 2-minute screening test to know if you are a candidate for LASIK :
I got lasik about a year and a half ago. I had extremely bad vision and now have 20/20. The first week after was a little difficult as you have to be diligent about using eye drops and getting to your doctors appointments and your eyes feel a bit strange. My guess it that 20 is not too young as long as your eye sight is no longer changing and you have the maturity to take exquisite care of your eyes while they are healing. It took me approximately 3 months before my eyes began to feel normal and I stopped seeing halos around lights. But the incredible eyesight started within the first few days.

It cost me about $5500 to get them done. I don't recommend going to a place just because they offer a discount. These are your eyes and you don't want to mess with them. I would save up until you could afford the best. About a year before I got it done I began to ask around and got about three recommendations from people I know who had also gotten it done. Then I went and had a consultation at each place and chose the doctor I trusted the most.

So yes I definitely think its worth it as long as it is done with careful consideration.
Whether or not Lasik is worth it to you depends upon your unique situation, your expectations, and the probability that you will attain those expectations. Lasik is very much a personal decision and everyone's eyes are unique.

I work for a nonprofit organization that certifies Lasik doctor patient outcomes. We don't provide Lasik, just Lasik information and certification.

At age 20 your eyes have likely stabilized, however you need to have had virtually the same prescription for at least two years. If your eyes are still changing you could have surgery now, but you would shortly either be back in glasses or needing additional surgery.

Some national chains advertise as low at $299 an eye, but when you look at the financial reports of those same chains you will find that the averaged cost is about $1,350 per eye. Lasik cost varies from about $1,400 to $2,900 per eye, depending on the surgeon and technology, according to David Harmon, president of the St. Louis research firm MarketScope.

What you will pay will depend greatly on your unique circumstances and which procedure is recommended. Conventional Lasik ablation will likely be less expensive than wavefront-guided custom Lasik. All-Laser Lasik will likely be more expensive than Lasik with a mechanical microkeratome. Some clinics charge extra for "lifetime acuity" plans that provide additional surgery if required later. If you don't know what these terms mean, then you really are not yet well enough informed to know if you need to pay extra to get them.

It may be that Lasik is not the best procedure for you. Be sure to go into this with an open mind. A comprehensive evaluation by a competent doctor will undoubtedly reveal details that will help make your decision.

I had my PRK (similar to LASIK, just a different cornea-sparing approach with a longer healing time) 13 days ago. I had to have the custom wavefront laser, which does cost more. For non-custom, my surgeon charges about $1500/eye. Of course, the cost will vary by region in the country.

You need to have a stable correction for 2-3 years. My surgeon prefers to wait until someone is at least 21 with the same strength correction, but some surgeons have different restrictions.

To find out if you are a candidate, you will need to have a consultation. I didn't qualify for the LASIK procedure because I needed a cornea-sparing technology due to thin average corneal thicknesses, so PRK was my only option.

I'm 30-something and for me it was well worth it. I had my followup appointment yesterday and am already 20/20 in one eye, and the eye that I accidentally scratched over the weekend is a couple of steps behind at 20/30, but healing and prognosis is for some additional improvement in vision.

If laser correction surgery is something you are interested in, research your eye surgeons very carefully...I chose by education and experience over price...and yes, probably paid more, but these are the only two eyes I'll ever have.then go in for a consultation.
well to be honest. it depends on your expectations as well. not everyone will turn out post Lasik to be 20/20. it may be a bit worse off but it you DO NOT wanna wear glasses post Lasik to improve any slight blur esp during low light conditions you may be disappointed. Plus even if you can see 20/20 it does not mean that it is sharp... i speak from having hear so many complaints that their LASIK went wrong when in fact they can see 20/30 or 20/20. They just have unrealistic expectation. One side note, you'll be happier if you used to be a high myope >-6D.
I'm only 21 and currently looking to get it done. It's definitely worth every penny. It'll cost you, in some cases, over 2 thousand dollars but if your vision is as bad as you say it is, then you should definitely consider getting it done. Usually it's an in and out surgery. Almost no pain.
I had lasik done five years ago ,I was 21.Great outcome!! My vision was so bad I could not drive or see anything without glasses. Now I do not need any glasses or lenses!! I paid about 1600,but it was 5 years ago, I am sure the prices has changed by now and techology also.I was so happy by doing it ,my whole world has changed for me in my eyes.I think its worth it.
Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
