Question:
I've considered having Lasik surgery to correct my vision. When I went to an informaiton session they talked about Lasik and PRK. The doctors suggested PRK for people who do contact sports (I'm active in martial arts, boxing and hockey). They said that the flap from the Lasik surgery could be jarred lose in contact sports. Has anybody had this experience? Or have you had Lasik and still participate in contact sports with no problems?
Answer:
anyone who thinks they might ever be kicked/hit/struck in the face with anything probably needs PRK IMO over lasik. with lasik you have the possibility of dislodging the flap pretty much at any time with a jarring or scraping blow to the eye. thats impossible in PRK b/c it has no flap.
but for *most* patients with desk jobs and no kickboxing, etc...lasik is fine.
My husband is a firefighter and his eye doctor recommended the PRK. He is actually having it done today!!
