Has anyone ever gotten the Lasik laser eye surgery done on their eyes(read on)??

Question:
if so, how was your experience? is your vision at its best now? i might get Lasik done on my eyes eventually. i have bad vision(myopia) and i definately do need glasses but i havent gone to the eye doctor. i dont want to wear glasses!! they will get in my way, i am not used to wearing glasses 24/7 and i dont think i look good in glasses. besides, my dad, my friends and many people who i know that wear glasses dread it! they have to get a stronger prescription every few years or so..and their vision onlt gets worse!! my vision is already bad enough without glasses..thats why i want Lasik...it would end all my problems and it is much more aesthetically pleasing! so my question is, has anyone gotten this procedure done on their eyes??

Answer:
wait till 21 there will be even more modern operations
ive had it done, unfortunately it didnt go well so i cant read on..
I haven't but my dad had laser surgery on his cataracts.
He says his vision is better now.
I hate wearing glasses but don't know if I would get laser surgery.
I had it done in 1998. it was a very simple medical procedure and it only took 1.5 minutes for each eyes. That was a miracle of me. i was very very nearsighted when i reach 19. That is one wish I prayed to God when i was a Little e girl. I asked God to restore my perfect vision. My prayer got answered.
So go for it, it is not about the glasses, contacts or looking good. It is about claiming the freedom of perfect eye sights back to yourself. I will do it again.
Im looking into it myself. Several of my friend and work colleagues have done it and they all say they wish they'd done it years ago! I'm too scared but I reckon I'll go for it soon coz my contact lenses are bugging me now.

You are probably suitable for lasiks as it works best when you're not very short sighted and obviously you're not or else you'd be in glasses by now! You do need to see an optician to get your eyes tested (they do other health checks too to make sure your eyes are healthy) they can't force you to wear glasses if you don't want to!

You can't get Lasiks until your vision has settled, you need to have a few prescriptions to show that your vision isn't changing otherwise if they do surgery then your eyes will change and you'll still need glasses.

The surgery itself is easy and quick. they'll do one eye at a time ( a few weeks apart). It takes seconds to do and you'll feel your eye gritty for a few hours up to a day after and your vision won't be great for a couple of days then it all settles down and you'll be able to see.

Word of warning though, it is very very effective but you are not guaranteed perfect vision, and your eyes can change after the surgery so you may not have perfect vision for ever. You'll not get surgery under the age of 18 and perhaps even 21 to lessen the chance of post surgery changes. Hope this helps.
I've had PRK, the approach to laser surgery that came before LASIK. I had very bad myopia, worse than 20/400 vision...couldn't see 6 inches in front of my nose.

You will need to wait until you are at least 18 and have a stable prescription. If you do not have glasses yet, you need to get a starting point in which to measure from for stable vision...and most of the surgeons want a stable vision for 2-3 years, or early to mid 20s.

Most people in their 40s are needing glasses for presbyopia to help them read...we all go through it...so even if you do have LASIK when you're in your 20s, there is still a very good chance that you'll need reading glasses in the future (people who never needed glasses in their life have this happen too).

I'm a 30 something. I had to wait until after my vision stabilized after having my children. Pregnancy tends to make your vision fluctuate some.

You do need to go to the eye doctor to start taking care of your eyes now. There is always the option of contacts if you do not want glasses...until you are a good candidate for the LASIK.

You also need to make sure your eyes are healthy for LASIK. There are some people who aren't able to have it because they have problems like severe glaucoma, corneal problems, too thin of corneas. Get your eye exam to start tracking your vision changes...and go every year.

Both my husband and I have had wonderful results from our laser surgeries. I go back for my 6-week checkup on Wednesday, but I feel like I'm seeing as good today as I did in contacts.
a family friend had it done, and his eyesight was only -5 [which is not THAT bad, but still he needed to use glasses].anyway, he went to get LASIK, and they messed up the procedure so now he's legally blind.

i would suggest you just get contacts, unless contacts bother you so much that you'd be willing to risk it and get LASIK. let me remind you that LASIK is a fairly new surgery in the medical world, and theres a good percentage of people who come out of the surgery either not healed or worse.

sooo overall, i'd suggest conatcts. and i'd definetly NOT recommend LASIK.

Any type of surgery is risky. Many of my friends have done Lasik and pleased with the results. Others have been disappointed and one lost vision completely. Several had to return to using glasses after awhile though initially the surgery was successful and they didnt need glasses. Think carefully before you go for it.
Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
I had laser eye surgery on both eyes in January of this year, and my husband had his done in February. We can both now see better than 20/20, and are delighted with the results. My eyes were worse than my husbands, and I was also allergic to my glasses, so I am doubly pleased with the results. My tear film was slightly damaged so I have had to continue putting in artificial tears. but it is a small price to pay for having perfect vision. As the months go on, I find that I don't have to insert the drops so often, so tear film is healing. It is the most fantastic thing in the world to be able to see again naturally! The best debt we ever got into! The procedure is distinctly unpleasant, easier if you wear contacts as you're used to touching your eyes. Just remember, it's over very quickly, and it's worth it. There is pain afterwards, but it is shortlived. Go do it! And enjoy! We had ours done at Optical Express at Bristol and everyone was wonderful. By the way, we both had lasik with the waveform technology - dog's bollocks!
I am in the same spot that you are, and research this thing to death. I turned out not getting the surgery by a narrow margin. I have compiled research on the different procedures, complication rates, and doctor recommendations:
