Almost 2 years ago I had lasik surgery. Right from the beginning I had problems.?

Question:
I could barely look at a book or anything close up without getting nauseaous and even dizzy. On my follow up visits the doctor assured me that was normal and it would take up to one year for these symptoms to dissapear. He also said (which I did not believe) that I was he only patient that ever reported something like this before. I had the surgery done because I did not want to wear glasses watching TV or while driving anymore. Never had a reading problem before. Now I have to wear reading glasses, but my so called 20/20 vision my doctor said I had is gone down the drain. My eyesight is back to where it was before, I can not read signs anymore while driving and a visit to a opthamologist revealed that now I need to wear glasses for reading and driving. Did anybody have the same problem after surgery and what did you do about it? Should procedure be done again to correct it? And is the surgeon responsible for doing it for free again. Problem also he is in another state.

Answer:
The dizziness and nausea are normal. (I don't know that it takes a year to correct that, though.) As for needing reading glasses, that depends on your age. If you are around 40 years old, that's when you start needing them. It has nothing to do with the surgery. However, the doctor should have mentioned it. If you were nearsighted, he could have "undercorrected" your vision to help make-up for the fact that you would need reading glasses. Some patients even undercorrect one eye, but that is something you'd have to get used to before having surgery to see if you even like it by wearing contact lenses or glasses with a slightly different prescription in one eye. Again, this is all to help modify the need for reading glasses.

Unfortunately there really isn't a perfect surgery to get rid of reading glasses. If your vision is back to where it was before you had the surgery, I would definitely ask to have it redone. Where I use to work, we would do enhancements for free up to a year.

I, too, had Lasik surgery. The only problem I had was severe dry eye, but that cleared up within a year. I have not hit my 40s yet, so I haven't had the need for reading glasses. I'm sorry your experience hasn't been a positive one and I suggest you ask the doctor to try to correct the problem.
I would not go back to him! He should compensate you though. Find a new doctor ASAP.
One of the warnings that was given to me when I had Lasik done was: You will eventually need glasses for reading and driving. I'm pretty sure this is standard.
hi iam 25y working as an assistance in a eye center where we also perform eye lasik. my question to you is that how old are you because if you are more than 35y you may be a presbyopia (you may need glass for near ) did your doctor tell you about the advantages of lasik and the disadvantage?
go do some reaserch before you go back to your doctor
if you are presbyopia you may need different kind of lasik stage which are normaly done in mutiple stages.
check back with your doctor.
