Will blurred vision (as a side-effect of Cymbalta) go away eventually?
Question:
I had Lasik surgery 4 months ago, so I am sensitive to vision changes. I am due for an Lasik "enhancement" on my left eye due to an overcorrection, and now my right eye is weaker. I'm not sure but I am guessing it's the Cymbalta.
Lots of side effects of antidepressants go away after you've taken it for a while - my question is: Will this side effect (blurred vision) go away also?

I do not have a lot of experience prescribing Cymbalta but I do have about 34 years of medical experience and I would say that although the Cymbalta website does not mention blurred vision as a serious side effect they do mention "Dry mouth" as a side effect and "Narrow angle Glucoma" as a counter-indication. Many neuropsychiatric meds have a nature similar to atropine which dialates the pupils of the eye and therefore can cause some blurred vision. However that would be bilateral or both sided and would also do that to your other eye as well. The fact that it has only affected one eye leaves a lot to be considered. Your vision is frequently determined by several aspects of your eye's anatomy. one of these is the "shape of your eye ball. But again this would usually be expected to be a bilateral effect. I would strongly suggest you see your eye doctor as soon as possible. I do not think the Cymbalta prescribing MD will know to much more about the side effects of that med either. The Lasik surgery Guy is just into it for the money I would suspect, and will not be much help either. I am already worried about the "over correction" and the "weaker" vision of the Right eye may be due to more then just the medicine. I would suggest that you see a real a real opthamologist (not an optomatrist - he is only an eyeglass pusher with years less training in real eye disease diagnosis and treatment.) The Emergency Room might be the quickest way to get to see an opthomologist if you can not get a quick appointment by just calling one if you do not already have one. Whatever happens, good luck with this, as it is so hard to get good care these days when the situation is a bit out of the ordinary. Our eyes govern more then 70% of what we do as Human Beings so it is not usually good sense to wait when it comes to the eyes. I must admit that usually most of what happens with the eyes is not truly an emergency, but when it is, it is nothing to fool around with.

tha'ts funny u mentioned that, cause i been on cymbalta for a year now... and i thought i was just imagining things but come to think of it, my vision gotten hazy since i started the cymbalta. it's not really a blurry vision but more like a hazy vision. and i stopped taking it about 4 weeks ago, and my vision seemed to become better... and now i went yesterday to see my doctor to and she put me back in the cymbalta and let me tell you, i was up at 4am nauseated ...wasn't fun. get back to me, we can share our experiences on cymbalta... send me an online or offline message on yahoo messenger gemini4977
I have been taking Cymbalta for six months. I have no vision troubles. I did not even know that was a side effect of them. Please check with your doctor and see if this is an effect of the Cymbalta. It is the only thing that has helped with my depression. I had daytime fatiuge for about a month. That improved and I am fine now.
