Some company try to do money with you, unfortunately?
Question:
Answer:
I think you may be a victim of identity theft. You should contact the credit bureaus and get a credit report right away. You may need to put a red flag against your credit report, so that companies will know you've been a victim of identity theft. If you are a victim, you would need to send a letter to the credit bureaus asking them to take the fraudulent accounts off of your credit report. I've had some one do this for me at the non profit organization operation hope. But if you don't know of any one that can help you, go to bankrate.com, they give good advice.
If you are talking about Visa, Mastercard or any of the major credit cards, simply call them and tell them you dispute the charge.
Since you say you got a letter, however, it sounds like it could be a name mixup or an old dept turned over to a credit collection agency. Call the company back and request them to give you the personal information on the charge. Your name/date of birth and so forth. If they can't give you that information, they are either a scam trying to collect money from people by trying to scare them with bad credit threats or they have the wrong person. Either way they cant hurt your credit if they don't have your correct information.
