What is the best online stock brokerage?

Question:
I currently use E-trade, but I dont like the expensive transaction fees, or the fact that I have to keep $5,000 minimum on the account. can someone recommend something better? Anyone ever try sharebuilder? Thanks
Personally, I like sharebuilder. I am only 23 so I'm investing for the long-run and the automatic investments for only $4 is perfect for me. If you search online you can find codes to get free money after your first investment. I got $50 free... that offsets a lot of investments. Just search for sharebuilder and promo and code. Good luck.
The big three are etrade, ameritrade and swab.
etrade is the most reliable and honest company, Their quick transfer is awsome. it combines bank, brokerage in one place.

i recommend that you deposit some money in your CD account. Their rate is not bad. changing to a small company may save you couple bucks per trade, but you dont get the same security and reliability as the big companies
I think Scottrade was voted one of the best (or the best) online trading sites. I like it a lot and I believe the minimums are $500. Trading is $7. I'd highly recommend it.
you knocked Etrade but I love it. Trades are only 9.99 for me (over 50k in combined assets) and as for the 5k minimum not sure where that is coming from because I have an account with only 2k in it for the last 6 months.

But against Etrade is high margin rates, and lack of money market interest on cash in the accounts.

Ameritrade is pretty good too.

Also have an account with Schwab and I can't stand the pokey system and higher fees.
