Which tax software should I use?
Question:
Answer:
Any of the common software packages available will cover your situation - it's pretty simple.
Turbotax or Taxcut I think may be the most reliable. I'm not sure which is more user-friendly. I use Taxcut - but it's because I like that it offers a bypass of the interview walk-through...and I can enter my information directly onto the forms. (But then I'm a tax preparer so I know what I'm doing).
Both of them have a walk-through program. You'll be using a Schedule D to record the stock sales, if you wanted to try and give it a go yourself.
Having both taxcut and turbotax software this year, I did a comparison. For my return, the turbotax was much better. The questions asked were easier to understand, the forms are much easier to get through and with several years of using turbotax, I decided to stick with them For your relatively uncomplicated filing, I would recommend the turbotax basic, with state. You get one free federal efile and will have an additional charge for the state if you want to e-file that one too. One other option might be the free e-file services offered through the IRS. Your eligibility depends on total adjusted income. see link for more info.
you can go with both turbotax & taxcut
