How much was my stock I bought 8 years ago?

Question:
I just sold the stock and need the purchase amount for my taxes. The stock is FTL (fruit of the loom). I bought it in 1999 sometime and I have no record and neither does my old broker of how much it cost. Is there a website with archives of how much stocks were worth or something with the NYSE that would have a record of it? My old broker Quick and Reilly said since I don't hae an account there any more they can't help me.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=ge...

you can get historical quotes for stocks
Also.

www.bigcharts.com

If you know about when you bought it, you should be able to get close. Bigcharts' price is also adjusted for splits.
If your broker can't tell you what the purchase price was, it's definitely time to find a new broker! Talk to his or her supervisor as that is inexcusable.

That said, you should keep accurate records of the cost of all stocks.

You can pull copies of the Wall Street Journal at your local public library. Anything more than a couple of years old will be on microfiche most likely. You may also be able to get that info on their website.

But do get a new broker; yours is incompetent.
Yes.

Go to Standard & Poors and search it out.
