An inventor claims to have invented a device that converts all energy givin into useful work, is that possible

Question:
And why?
Energy input cannot equal energy output because there is always some amount of friction.
No. Every action looses some energy to entropy. It is impossible to have a 100% efficient device. This would mean that it is perfectly insulted to heat lose. It would have to be frictionless, which is impossible.

We can get low rates of energy lose in labs, using very controlled experiments, but in real life it isn't nearly that neat and clean.
Not with current technology. See also, "Perpeutual motion".
The old perpetual motion device, ask for 10% of the profits for a sum of $ 1,000,000.00 and Claim the cheque is in the mail
