How do i find out if someone already invented or patented my idea?

Question: I have an invention idea and would like to find out if someone has already thought of it and if they have, if they have even taken it to the next level of putting a patent on it.

However, one of the first tasks of a patent lawyer is to first check if any patent on their client's product idea already exists. You may want to check a lawyer.
