How would my college bursary be worked out?

Question:
i live 50 miles away from the college i will be going to in august would i get my travel paid for a i would need to spend £50 per week on travel. we ae claiming benefits just now how would they be affected? I know that all bursaries are worked out individually but i cant afford to go to college if we would be worse off than we already are.

Answer:
I'm taking it that you are going to a further education college rather than uni. If you are, and your household income is under a certain level. I am on benefits and got my travel paid for me but it was the nearest college to my home. That will make a difference. If there is a nearer college that offers the same or similar course they might not pay. If you are on Income Support or most other benefits, you can go to college if your course is not more than 16 teaching hours a week (this means the time in the classroom being taught by a tutor, not the amount of time you study).

Hope this helps.
