Anyone have a baby in the middle of a college semester?

Question:
I got pregnant in the middle of April. Unfortunately, at my 8 1/2 week ultrasound, the baby stopped growing at 6 1/2 weeks. I had to have a D&C a couple of days ago.
I was due January 4. I figured I could go ahead and go to school during my last paid semester since I was due right before the begining. (I have a 4 year scholarship, but it will take me 5 years to graduate).
Although this pregnancy was half irresponcibility, my BF and I have decided that we want to wait to try again for a few months so I can have a summer baby (so it won't interfere with school).
However, I was just wondering what would happen if we went ahead and tried sooner.
I'd like to hear some personal experiences.
How long did the teachers/school let you take off after the birth of your child?
How were your grades affected?
Good experiences? Bad experiences? Opinions?

Answer:
It is possible to take "Incomplete" grades for classes in a term, and then finish them on your own, and exceptions can be made for medical emergencies...which pregnancy would certainly qualify.

But I can't urge you enough to consider waiting to have a baby until after graduation. Both school and a baby require so much of your time and attention that you will wind up short-changing both. You are lucky enough to have the choice of when you have this child, and squeezing him/her in during summer won't be any advantage when you have to return to school in the fall.

I know that the loss of your first child is making you think you want a baby as soon as possible, but please don't. Give yourself to commit everything you have to him/her once you have your diploma.
