Can someone please explain the financial aid process for college.?
Question:
Answer:
Your fafsa is just the first step and don't go by what people have heard if you want to know your finacial aid office at the school you plan to attend. Secondly there are thousands of grants, scholarships, and loans available to students. the fin aid office should have some websites or applications that you can get and apply for everything you can because there are alot of college students trying to get a piece of the pie. Lastly, get it done early the sooner the better most fin aid have deadlines well before you will actually start attending classes
Go ask the finacial aid people at your school. They get paid to find ways for you to attend.
you have to firs fill out the FSFA (this is the federal student aid form), this will determine if you qualify for any federal grants (income based). You cannot apply for student loans until you do this. Then there are two types of student loans, subsidsed (govt. subs them and interest if lower) and unsubsidised (provate lenders, slightly higher interest). You can choose to make payments while in school or defer until after graduation, know that interest does compound during deferrment period.
go to your school guidance counselor they will be able to help you. you could also contact the school in which you are applying and ask the people in the financial aid dept all your questions and concerns you may have.
