You need to fill out a fafsa application. You can do that at fafsa.ed.gov. Then contact the financial aid office at the school you want to attend. After the fafsa is processed you'll know if you qualify for any grants. Grants are based on income and don't have to be repaid. The school can tell you about any scholarships. You say you don't want student loans but you should consider them if you really want to go to college. You don't have to start paying back student loans until 6 months after you leave school. That gives you time to get a job and have the money to make the payments. Interest rates on student loans are usually pretty competetive. If you have a school close to you, the tuition should be cheaper. You might also check into a Junior college or community college. I think they are fairly reasonable.
FAFSA...I didnt have money either and I got the maximum $4,000 every year until I graduated from College. Its a government grant. I graduated in Dec 2005 and I started in September 2000. If you take out loans, make sure the are called "STAFFORD" loans, because they are government loans, and they are given to you by the government based on need, and private loans are based on credit history. I stayed away from private loans because they hit your credit report. I did 1 stafford loan and I then consolidated it after I graduated, so I have to pay back $5000 in 12 yrs. Stafford loans work with you, you can defer the payment until 6 months after you graduate. If you go back to school, you can keep deferring them. If you cannot pay back, you have 3 yrs of hardship. Anyway, if you are looking for an exam, go to a community college, they usually have free or $29 dollar state exams, and they are equalivent to SAT, ACT and so on. If youre not permanent resident/citizen, most community colleges work with you, and if they cant, they can make a payment plan at the cashiers office to make your education affordable. Sometimes you can do workstudy program, and they pay for your college which you volunteer your hours to working as a secretary. Also, Business is a great degree to seek, since you are from elsewhere you can consider international business. My cousin did that and she speaks a different language, and she used her 1st language to waive some credits off shortening her degree by a semester.
If you just graduated high school, you have a long way to go to do graduate school. You have to do an undergrad first, which takes four years. Because your grades are so low and you can't get scholarships yet, take classes at your community college. They're much cheaper than a university. This is the time to buckle down and do really well. Get your GPA to a 3.0 and you should be able to get some scholarships then. Speak to your financial aid counselor about it.
i don't know if you are having trouble explaining yourself situation or what. So, I begin like this. You need to complete undergraduate level by getting a Bachelors degree before moving on the grad school. Graduate school is competitive. So if you want to be awarded scholarships and fellowship you will need to have top notch scores on your gre, GPA, and be able explain yourself eloquently. If not, then loans is your best bet for funding your education. You will also need outstanding recommendations that backs your academic stance within the education world.
