Golf Scholarships?

Question:
Im a freshman at my high school and i am curious, what are the chances of me getting a scholarship. I have had clinic invitations to UCLA and have met a college sponsor for Pepperdine. I am confident in my ability/i play varsity golf. My dad, being himself told me i have a low chance of scholarships let alone playing professional (which is my dream) I dont hate him for it but i ask myself what are the chances i can get a scholarship and eventually play pro?

Answer:
Don't let anyone, including your parents, stop you from fullfilling your dream. I don't know what your chances are, but I work with someone who just came back from the University of Alabama with a golf scholarship. She's been playing since she was 7, so I guess you can use that to compare.
no.
If you have the talent, you will get recognized. Play junior tournaments if you can. Use your dad's negativity as motivation. I am not totally sure about this, but I don't believe golf scholarships are "full ride" type scholarships. You may want to check into that. If you can consistently shoot in the low 70's, you can definitely play college golf. There are all kinds of tours you can play on and eventually make the PGA Tour. Remember that. This year's Master's Champ was a Nationwide Tour graduate.
Your best bet of getting a golf scholarship is playing in some regional events and getting noticed. The other thing to be open to is going to a school in a different part of the country beyond So Cal. A Big Ten school or Big 12 school all have solid golf programs, so there are plenty of golf scholarships out there. You just have to get yourself out there. Golf is a sport where the kid who knocks on the most doors will get a look. The budgets for these programs don't allow the coaches to travel, so they depend on kids coming to them. Good luck!
ask your golf coach what he thinks about your chances
For now, you need to play in a lot of tournaments. You should play in top junior tournaments like the AJGA events and local adult tournaments like the metro amateur and state amateur, also play in the USGA qualifiers for US open and the amateur tournaments. You probably won't qualify, but you will be able to compare yourself to current college golfers.

When you are a junior in high school do a lot of research on college golf teams, see what their players shoot, and if you can get into the school academically. Then, start to contact the coaches by sending them your golf resume along with your academic transcripts (coaches usually only offer scholarships to kids with good GPAs because you will be missing a lot of class).

In So Cal you will have to shoot under par in most high school tournaments to get a golf scholarship, but you could get a scholarship by averaging 3 or 4 over par in other parts of the country at schools in minor conferences.
You need to have and average in the 70's, that's what I heard.
Shaun176 hit the nail on the head. Colleges want someone who can not only shoot low, but also someone who's seen competition and shoots low. Keep very good records and a "resume" of your competitions. This will be very important when a scout comes looking at your abilities. Also, like Shaun said earlier, you may not get into a So Cal school, but there are plenty of Div 1A and Div II schools that will pick up a talented player and work on development. These schools don't usually pick up a player on scholorship immediately (and some don't even offer them) but may offer one in your second or third year if you're doing well.

Don't be discouraged by your father as he's probably only trying to keep you from being disappointed. Work hard and know what it take for you to reach your goals. It's ok to have a dream, just be realistic about it.
Here is a golf school that has lots of great info about the golf industry. I don't know if they offer scholarships, but it is a great school and their website has a lot of information on many different golf careers, including becoming a professional golfer. It certainly would be worth a look.
