When you get college fellowships, do they also pay for dorms.. or give u any money to live on?

Question:
I just recently changed my major to Art History, and I'm going to have to go to Grad school. I want to move to seattle or portland. I basically was wondering about the nature of recieving fellowhips.. mainly bc if dorms or extra money was included, that would help with the move.

Answer:
A graduate fellowship is a stipend, you can spend it however you like. (Be sure to get cheap insurance on your own, or the university will almost certainly deduct the cost of medical insurance from your fellowship.)

Tuition waivers, however, are just that.
The short answer is... it depends on the nature of the fellowship.

Some have all the bells and whistles, and some don't. It depends. If you're a REALLY good student and are blessed with being able to choose, read the fine print, then pick. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Fellowships can be used to pay tuition and board expenses. It depends on how you receive your payment and what type of fellowship it is whether it can be used for living expenses. Some fellowships can pay for research trips as well.
