In college sports do coaches look the other way if a player's grades are bad?
Question:
Answer:
Well, I am sure that it happens in colleges, but I can only go on my experience. When I was a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University in the late 80's, we had several football players who took our geology class and lab. We had fill out a weekly attendance report and when we had sent in a report that one of the students missed 3 consecutive labs and turned it in, he showed up 3 days later during office hours to apologize for his lack of attendance and worked very hard to make up the lab work.
Some do and some dont. Larry Coker for one would be a coach who turns his back and disregards anything a player does. But a coach like Bobby Bowden has had instances where he has revoked scholarships for behavioral problems. Randy Moss was one of them, Moss as a SR in HS had already signed to play at FSU on a full ride and his scholarship was revoked b/c of his off the field behavior before he even got to FSU. Adrian McPherson (a QB) was kicked off the team for his disobediance. Coach Stoops from Oklahoma kicked off his "stud" sophomore QB this season for accepting money while working at a car dealership during the summer.
I, for one, had a 75% baseball scholarship revoked and kicked off the baseball team and out of school b/c of my constant problems in the classroom after my freshman year. So some coaches just dont have any of it while others may turn and look the other way, they have no standards or self respect, like Larry Coker or Miami.
