What scholarships can help me for college?

Question:
I'm a junior at my school and i'm preparing for college. I'm hoping to get accepted at a cal state, but money is a real big issue. I have a parent who isn't willing to help me get into college. (Sad huh?) I want to know if anyone can help me find a website or know about any type of programs that can help me earn a scholarship for my school. I'm trying to get my G.E.'s first. Then i'll worry about my major or minor later. So, hopefully someone out there can tell me more information...

Answer:
www.fastweb.com
This is a website where you fill out your information including your race, extracurricular activities, religion, etc. It will narrow down the available scholarships to your interests. Also, if your SAT/ACT scores (if you've taken any) are high enough (maybe around a 27 on the ACT), your college of choice may give you a scholarship. You can also write some essays to get some scholarships. You can even write about your situation now (how one of your parents is not paying for your college). Just be careful not to sound hateful/disrespectful. Scholarship readers like to read something that they can empathize with. Even if you're not a good writer, get a few teachers to proofread it. I hope I helped =).

Have you thought about calling the college of your choice and ask them what you need to do? If your parent or parents won't help, there is government funding available. ( there's two different kinds.) One you must pay back, its a loan to go to that college. One is that which the government pays for everything including your classes, books, and gas.and some provide housing. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call and ask for the human resources dept.I wish you nothing but the best of luck!
There are four places which can help you find scholarships. However, I recommend having a person or two proofread the application essays before they are submitted. I also recommend really preparing for the SATs before taking them, so you could get the highest score possible in order to try for merrit scholarships from the college. None of these items cost money.

First, when you are a senior, your high school admissions office has a list of local scholarships available.

Second, Cal State's financial aid office has a list of private scholarships from outside organizations and companies.

Third, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for scholarships based on college major, ethnic, and religion. Some college majors have more scholarships available than others such as nursing.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search website. Most are updated on a regular basis.

It is not too early to start looking for scholarships. Good luck!
