College Issue!!! help!?
Question:
things are as easy as they were 20 years ago if not easier. how do i make them understand that i dont care about going to an ivy leage school , i care about going to a good school getting decent grades,, getting a good job and being happy in life. ? Not about becoming rich, which it all they care about
Answer:
Its your life! Do NOT allow them to influence your
decision! Believe in yourself...your parents will understand
eventually! DONT let them control you! Looks like you have a good head on your shoulders and know what you want!
You are OLD enough and MATURE enough to make your
own decisions!
well, if you are the one who has to pay for college, don't tell them anything at all. apply to where you want to go and call it good.

Which field are you going into?
If its engineering then a bachelors from MIT has a starting salary around $100k while a bachelors from ASU has a starting salary around $65k. If the MIT person and the ASU person apply for the same job, the ASU person will never be hired.
The school affects how willing a company is to hire you, for engineering. If you are going into elementary education, then its a very different story. Its not competitive, but its hard to make a life on a teachers salary.
There are some schools that are beneath you. Going there demeans you, and puts you in an environment you wont like. If you are a fair worker and love your field, and go to a party school where all your peers dont work, and dont love the field, that will drag you down and suck away your love of the field and willingness to work.
Oh, and the small party schools of the world tend to have bitter old professors who need to sabotage a few good incoming students every class to feel better about themselves. In a high-quality school that doesnt fly, but in a joke-school that happens all the time. If you dont mind being singled out for your race, gender, weight, clothing styles, or asking a question they dont want to answer.. think about going to a mid-level college.
You should know that your parents love you. They want good things for you, even if they dont understand you well, and they have twisted views of reality. Even if their brains dont work like yours, you can be sure their hearts are in the right place. Be kind to them. When you turn 24 they will spontanously combust into blazing supergeniuses with amazing insight - seriously. It happened to all of my friends - their parents became brilliant and perceptive in one year.
Make choices today that dont limit your choices tomorrow, or tomorrow when you want an option, you will not have it.
You can get awesome jobs after graduating from USM. The important thing is that you are going to college and at your young age seem to have a great direction in life. If you are paying, go where you can afford to go, and do the best you can. Good luck, and great job for having goals set for yourself.
