Can I still march when pregnant?
Question:
Answer:
If band scholarship is your way into college, it's not worth it to quit. But if the mallets are uncomfortable, save yourself the agony and ask to switch to a non-harnessed instrument. You also need to see a seamstress about adjusting the size of your uniform, or ask around to see if you can switch with someone whose uniform is too big. Good luck!
there gonna find out sooner or later there's no hiding it.
i think you should talk to your band coach and see what she/he suggests..
There are alot of scholarships and grants out there and if your pregnant you need to find a college with a daycare.
(being pregnant may make u lose this scholarship anyway u need to check into that.)
band isn't gonna be a healthy job to support you and your baby my suggestion is quit and look into other options (talk to your guidance counselor and or parents)
never do anything uncomfortable while pregnant.
ps. does anyone know ur pregnant?
is the father helping u?
we all had to sacifice something to do whats best for our children.
good luck and take care:)
When marching season is in full-swing this fall, you'll be much further along than this and probably fairly incapable of wearing the harness. If band is important to you, and it definitely sounds like it is, you can stay in and just switch to another instrument. What about joining the pit and playing xylophone or a gong or chimes...something you won't have to carry or march with at all? This is what a girl did when I was in a high school band...she was a trombone player who was due in December and marching got to be very uncomfortable, so she got a bigger uniform and switched to pit. It worked out fine for her! Sounds like maybe you're due sooner, though (mid-November, maybe?), so your band director may have to let you sit it out toward the end. Definitely don't quit if this is your scholarship into college. You need that more than ever now that you're pregnant. Good luck, and congratulations!
My friend marched while she was pregnant, she played trumpet, though. Large people can play using a harness, so I don't understand why you couldn't. I would be most concerned about carying a lot of weight, though. Ask your doctor about that. If you are really concerned, talk to your director about just sticking with concert band or jazz band. Don't worry about what the band moms say, just do what you can to make sure that you and your baby have the best possible future.
