There are several different options, depending upon what type of school you are attending. For money that you don't have to pay back, I would recommend getting Federal Pell Grants. You can do this by applying for the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov . DO NOT use www.fafsa.com . But the main problem you will encounter with trying to get a grant now is the timing. I doubt you will be able to receive any rewards in time for this upcoming spring semester.
BUT...you can still get a Stafford Loan, most likely through your school. If you are planning on attending a four-year university, then you can get this loan without having to go through a credit check. The downside of a university though is that they are so expensive that you will probably not be able to receive enough money for tuition AND rent. On the other hand, if you can go to a community college this semester and just knock out your core classes for cheaper, then you should be able to get enough money to cover both. But the only downside to this is that a community college will most likely require you to attend a preemptive meeting before they give you the loan, and will then run a credit check. I hope yours is good.
Hope this helps.
