So...here it goes???

Question:
Alright, back in the day I was an amazing athlete in track and cross country. I won several national and state titles in highschool (distance running). I got a full scholarship to a school that was one of the leading distance programs in the nation. Once I arrived I was hurt for awhile and then continued running back to normal...This is my question. So, after a few months of training (NOT OVERTRAINED) I continued to just get worse and worse as the months as years went on... I don't think you can lose talent?? Their has to be a reason why I just continued to get worse...worse meaning running minutes slower then my freshman year of highschool and here I am at one of the top programs in the country, everyone else got faster? Help me figure out factors so I can run good again?

To rule out possibilities you guys might think:
Not anemia
ate healthy (no under eating or over eating)
stayed a healthy weight (didn't gain weight or lose weight from previous years)
not overtrained
What was your injury?
You may need to evaluate the training you are doing and the muscle groups it is targeting in your legs.
Are you as limber as you were as a freshman?
New or better stretching techniques can help, check with your trainer and your coaches.
You are not over or under eating but are you fueling up correctly, when I played competitive soccer, my best games were when I really carbed up the night before. So check to see not how much your putting in the tank, but also when and what is going there. You may not be building up the reserve energy if you have changed what you used to eat before.
Finally, do you have any lingering joint pain?
Joint pain will mentally slow you down as well. Try different shoes, stretches, foods and monitor yourself and don't be afraid to really push 1-2 work outs a week to help rebuild lost stamina from the injury.
