About College?
Question:
Answer:
I am impressed by you already! It is good to plan ahead, and you are off to a great start. Colleges look at grades, activities, and leadership ability. Some scholarships are based on this and also on financial need. You can google scholarships (music, athletic, etc.) and several sites will be listed for more information.
Did you know that you can graduate one semester early if you go to summer school? That's what I did, and I was eligible to graduate in January instead of May, so I could attend college in the Spring Semester.
Also you can take college classes when you are in high school. Your counselor will have more info if you are not already doing this.
Career counselor and academic advisors are available in college and the former will help you with your career options. They are very helpful and their services are free to prospective and ongoing students.
Best wishes. Keep up the good work. You are on track and ahead of the game!
You are off to a great start. Colleges look at community service, grades (SAT and/ or ACT), and sports. Try looking into fastweb (www.fastweb.com). The website is very good for looking up anything that involves college. Also, try next step magazine's website (www.nextstepmagazine.com), it will also give you some helpful advice.
Good Luck!
First, take a deep breath and calm down. You are only in tenth grade. The second thing you need to do, is continue to keep good grades. To decide what major to take can be based on several things. What do you enjoy doing? Use the bls.gov website. It's the bureau of labor statistics, and in the career section they have descriptions of many many careers. Colleges look at everything, including extracurriculars, grades, and who you are. Take on a leadership role. Become a committee or club president. Pretty good colleges can range in cost. If you go to a public school, it is typically cheaper, otherwise, it can cost 20,000+ for private (again this is not always, just in most cases). Some good websites that may help are: www.collegeboard.com and www.princetonreview.com. Good luck!
