Why do so many people expect their parents to pay for college?

I know people who are having a fit because their parents wont pay for them to go to college. I understand why the parents wouldn't want to pay. They have to worry about their retirement. I don't understand why young people don't realize that when they turn 18 their parents don't owe them a thing.

Exactly! It's called responsibility, if their parents pay for everything, than they won't learn how to handle living on their own ever.

their lazy and expecting their parents to still help them out.. they need to learn how to help themselves...

It's the right thing to do. I financed college for all three of my boys and am damn glad I did. Everyone of them has paid me back in full except the youngest who is in the process of doing so

I never expected my parents to pay for college. I did, however, expect them to help me out a little because they said they would. I planned on doing it myself, but I would need their help. I get a little upset when people don't do what they say they will. That was my only issue with this situation. But I do agree that the kids shouldn't expect every penny to be paid by their parents when they haven't offered that support. It is truly responibility time.
