Is it racist to have a college scholarship that's only for white people?
Question:
Answer:
no i wish there was one for caucasians. this is not fair. we should not be punished for something we have no control over. i need a scholarship and i probably won't get one unless i get a 30 or higher on the ACTs but if an african american needs one they can get them. good for them, but bad for us
Hypocrisy. Political correctness.
I'm sure there are some only for white people. I personally don't see the problem.
yes it would be racist and i'm sure there are not any, if its only for blacks then that's perfectly fine though.i know its stupid and hypocritical.
Yes this is an old ruse. The counterargument, of course, is that many scholarships and other opportunities were whites-only for a hundred years or more. The minorities-only programs are intended to be a temporary method of righting the ship.
I'm probably wasting precious time and energy here but...
Grants offered by the government or public institutions are not offered based on race or gender. If you look at the FAFSA, there isn't a single question related to one's race...not even for statistical purposes. Grants are based solely on income and asset information.
Scholarships offered to students from under-represented minorities and women are generally offered from private institutions/organizations. Scholarships offered by public and private colleges that emphasize diversity as an objective do not give preference to students from any racial or ethnic minority group but to students who have a proven record of being interested in diversity. I have seen white students receive these multi-cultural or diversity scholarships. I have observed that white students don't always apply for these scholarships because they erroneously believe that they are only for minorities.
I hope this information will be helpful to you.
the ones that exist for whites specifically usually are, i e daughters of the american confederacy
but the ones that are for minorities only, are usually ones from when we (minorities) were not eligible for programs/scholarships/colleges that were for whites only.
should the programs/colleges/scholarships that were created out of necessity be abandoned because we are included now?
