5.0? Grades are very important. They show that you have the determination you need to be able to stay in school and play baseball. Also, with academic requirements if you can't make decent grades in high school, you'll never make good enough grades in college and be ineligible to play.

Well, for starters you have to "qualify" in order to be eligible as a freshman. The NCAA has minimum requirements for all incoming freshman see the following link for those at the D1 level(http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/membersh... If you do not qualify you cannot play or recieve a scholarship as a freshman at the D1 or the DII level. If you do not qualify you can go to a JC and play your first year and work towards transferring but every year you play at the JC subtracts from the 4 years you get at a 4 yr school.
Grades are real important because if there is someone with the same talent as you but with better grades, they will get the scholarship and not you. They also determine the amount of scholarship you get IE, full ride or partial. A GPA of 3.7 and above usually will get you almost anywhere.

There is strong competition for baseball scholarships.
Too many kids get caught up in "Little Pond Syndrome" - they are a good player in town and assume they will dominate. Instead they discover that EVERY town has good players, and you are competing against them - FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
So you have to assume that you are on the bubble. And players on the bubble need every possible edge to get in. Therefore, GRADES MATTER!
Be smart - assume that there are no scholarships and get your stuff together in all respects - GRADES, good recommendations (not just from your coach - find others too!), volunteering in your community, extra-curricular activities are also factors.

Baseball means just that, baseball. If you can play and maintain a 2.0 you'll get your scholarship. After all they don't want your brain, they want your arm, legs and hand/eye co-ordination. Anything above a 2.0 is gravy. Don't listen to these other super stars. They haven't got a clue!
You need to meet the NCAA's qualifications (which I believe is a combination of your ACT/SAT and grades). If you are on the low end of the talent being looked at, they might take your grades into consideration because kids with low grades in high school will likely be towards the low end of grades in college. The reason they care about that is: 1. to boost the team GPA and take heat off themselves from NCAA over team academics, and 2. because if your grades drop enough you may become ineligible to play.
Very important. No college coach is going to waste one of his scholarships on a borderline student.
