Should college athletes get paid?
Question:
Answer:
Well, at 30 or 40 grand a year for free, I'd say they're getting paid. Trust me, they get money. I went to a small D-3 school and all atheletes find ways to get more money than they earn.
In reply to the WAC player... You ARE getting compensated... You said yourself, they are giving you money for food and an apartment. So you may need to save a little in the offseason to get a little extra. Compare that to a student who gets nothing for the money from school and has to pay it all on their own. Like a student who doesn't play sports or a kid who plays d-3. I played football and basketball for a d-3 school and I still made it through the year without problems.
yes they should be compensated
Yes!
I play Div. 1 football in the WAC. I'm a redshirt freshman, and i have to rely on my parents to loan me enough money to get by until i can get a job in the off-season. From the beginning of july until january you have no time to have a job and no way of making money. The university gives you just enough money to pay for your rent, utilities, cable, and internet. At the end of the month my car is on empty, and there is no food whatsoever in my fridge. I dont think athletes should get paid year round. We need to become adults and learn to have a job. But the 7 months that we are in sports i think we should recieve a bit of compensation. Athletics bring in so much money for school, the schools should give some of it to take care of their athletes.
well, when you get paid for something, you become a professional. professional server, professional cook, professional mechanic. in college sports, you are not yet a professional. you will get paid for it once you make the pros after college. many many many college students (or anyone else for that matter) struggle w/bills and/or come from poor backgrounds. if you get an athletic scholarship, great! but while you are in college, i hope you are taking courses that you also have the chance of succeeding at in the world. good luck :)
The college is already paying for your education and living expenses. If you can't afford to pay for gas or food at the end of the month, then get rid of your cable and your internet.
They get their whole education PAID. Just imagine a football player who plays for Stanford or Vanderbilt or other great school out there. They don't only "went" to Stanford, Vanderbilt, Auburn, etc they got their education taken care of.
you have got to be kidding me
A full scholarship plus financial aid
they already have enough money
Are you serious? Do you think these kids play for free? It must be nice to believe in Santa at your age.
