I have ADHD; what colleges are good for me??
Question:
I'm interested in working in the feild of child developmental dissabilities if that helps.
thanks.
Answer:
Contact each college individually, and ask to talk to a career counselor.
Tell them your problem and ask what programs they have for you and what they can do to help you.
Good Luck!
Having ADHD has nothing to do with a certain college. I was diagnosis in the 80's and have been in college for three years. You still have to do your work and you still have to pass. Any college will assist you in test taking if you have a history with this condition. You must go through the disabilities office and show proof of this condition.
Just a personal note. Just because you have been diagnosed with learning disability don't lean on it to much. Don't use it to get through things the easy way because you will miss out on so much.
Good Luck.
personally, if you can handle the pressures of community college after ghigh school, the change from community college to a university should be easy to overcomme also. choose colleges you want to go to, not ones that will accept you because of ADHD. tell them of your condition and see about the scholarships. good luck
Colorado College has a good reputation for working with folks with learning disabilites. You might also look at some of the alternative schools Prescott College, Evergreen College, and Sterling College.
Make sure the school has good acesibility servises, to acomidate any needs you may have. I'm at University of Michigan it's awsome.
I think most universities have a learning centre and special things for students with learning problems like ADHD or test anxiety. Usually, you have to get proof from a doctor or a psychologist that you have a problem and then you'll be able to take your tests in a quiet room with less distractions. My lover has ADHD, didn't know that there were scholarships for people with ADHD that sounds kind of dumb, but things like taking exams at the learning centre instead of in the exam room with 1000 other people help. Also, if you're or used to take medication, it might help with your studying. Just don't abuse it, but Ritalin does sell quite nicely so I hear, if you want to have a little extra income.
Look for a uni with a psychological services centre and counselling for students, as well as a special needs office. Then make a few phone calls and see what you like.
