Question:
I just got my ged recently, and Id realy like some college so I am more likely to not only get a job, but a good paying job. Id realy like a job in an office, but Im not sure what?

What kind of jobs would you suggest?

Is it possible to just take one business course in college? How long do they take to complete and how much do you thing they would cost?

And dont forget to suggest some office jobs.

Thanks everyone =)

Answer:
Sure, but I recommend a community college because you can take an intro to Business course much more cheaply there than a regular university. Depending on the class and the number of credits (and whether you choose the for-credit option), and whether or not you qualify for some sort of grant, you're probably looking at between $100-400 for a CC or $400-1500+ for a regular university.

Are you thinking of trying to become an administrative assistant in a regular office, a medical assistant in a doctor's office/hospital, or something more like a receptionist? Any of those would be good, and don't forget about the possibility of becoming a legal assistant/paralegal.
I can't tell you what you should do in life, only you can do that. As for the college course, go to your community college. Look at the business programs and list of courses offered. You can take these courses at that community college with a part-time student status, which mean you can take 1 course a semester (some community colleges go on a quarter system). Community college tuition are cheap. Where I am at, the tuition is registration (~$80) plus the number of course units ($20/unit).
Sure you can. A lot of folks do community college to get courses. You pay PER CREDIT so a 3 credit class runs about $50-$60 per credit..
At a comm. college, they are all on a qtr. system so you will be in school for 10 weeks.
Congrats on getting your GED. That can be a lot of work.

Your best and least expensive option will be for you to attend your local community college, or if that's not available, your local state college. Because you live in the state, you get a tuition discount that people from elsewhere don't receive. The CC will be cheaper than the state college.

You can take just one course, via continuing education, without having to enroll in the college as a full student. There is often little paperwork needed. Check the website or call the continuing education department of your local community college and see what they offer.

As for office jobs that you can get without a college degree or training, there are not a lot. Most at least require some training. However, companies often hire entry-level employees for reception, for the lower-level jobs in the mailroom, and for junior level adminstrative types of positions. The admin jobs tend to be pretty computer intensive, though, thus require a certain level of computer skills. Most colleges will offer computer classes in things like word processing and spreadsheets that can help you get these skills. And many actually offer associates or diploma programs designed to prepare you to enter this field, so it may be worth asking about.

Most classes take about 13-16 weeks to complete - one semester. The cost varies, depending on the school, so I can't speak to that at all. But if you get the continuing ed brochure from your local school, they'll list the prices for each class.
Well I cant suggest some office jobs until I know what you are interested in. But I can tell you that you can take one business course in college but you first will need to apply. If you go to a Jr college it will be cheaper than a 4 year university but remember financially aid is available to help with the cost. most people dont realize that the less money you ( or your parents) make, the more money (free or loans) you can get for college. School loans from the government do not require credit checks!! Do some research. Contact some colleges and talk to a counselor and research financial aid, you just may be able to go to college full time and get a degree!! Good LucK!!
