What do I need to do to transfer to a Texas college from a Mississippi one?

Question:
I lived in Texas until my junior year of high school, and I have been wanting to move back. I'm a freshman in college at the University of Mississippi(Ole Miss), and my parents are talking about moving back soon. How long would they need to live there before I could have in state tuition? When do I need to apply for the college and scholarships? I had a 4.0 my first semster, and I made a 1920 I think on my SAT. I have 19 hours right now, but at the end of next semester I will have 35 hours. I'm an English major also. I don't know exactly where I'd like to go either. My mom mentioned St. Thomas since a friend was telling her about there. I need to be able to get scholarships to be able to attend anywhere. Anyone have any helpful information?
Thank You.

Answer:
Each state has its'wn residency reuirements. You can search the requirements for Texas either at a University site or the state's own site. Financial aid is generally the same for most universities and based on need. Most colleges and universities require that you submit an annual fafsa. Again, you need to check with each university's financial aid office for requirements. If you hope to transfer in the Fall of 07, you should be taking serious looks at schools you want to attend. You will need a transcript from Ole Miss and some credits may not transfer. State schools are more likely to charge an out-of state tuition than private schools. Good luck.
You seem to have a good GPA and apparently do well in school. You might want to inform Ole Miss that your family is moving. maybe they would offer you some inducement to stay, such as a scholarship or grant.
You need to call the office of Admissions and speak with a counselour in order to find out how many credits will transfer. They will probably request a copy of your transcript. They will also know about how long it takes for you to receive in-state tuition. You can also look online at the FAFSA website.
you need to check with the admissions office at whatever school you want to transfer to.

But why would you want to? Just because your mother is moving doesn't mean you have to switch universities. Time to grow up be on your own for a while. The possibility of losing scholorships and credits is a definate possibility. If you hate the school then definately try, but if you like it there and are doing well, why risk a degree from a good school to go where your mother is living. Makes no sense.
I transferred from Ole Miss, actually! It was a great decision for me. Just check out the desired school's requirements, and make sure to have your transcripts sent well ahead of time! Good luck!
