Is it normal to take a year off after you graduate college?
Question:
Answer:
Yes. It's called "I can't find a job."
Really it's not great to take time off either time. I took time off before college..and still haven't finished. It just made me want to be at home...or just go to work..it took me out of my discipline mode I had in school big time. After college, you should be busy putting your education to work and finding a job yes. However, technically about school loans...they don't start becoming due until after you've been out of school for 6 months..and then you can put them on deferrment if necessary. Good luck
exactly. SINK your teeth into college. Save any money you can, and pray you FIND a job after college. You will have some time to take off. Almost guaranteed.
Ask yourself: "Do I want to" , and "Am I normal". The answer relies in your response. If you are not normal, than do what you don't want to do, and visa-versa.
Sure, plenty of people take that time to travel.
I'd rather answer the question, "Is it wise to take a year off before or after college?"
You'll have to decide this one yourself. Why do you want a year "off?" Is it because you want to spend it in idleness, or do you want to accomplish something in that year? A year (or semester, or whatever) spent sorting out your life priorities or recreating yourself can be very profitable. On the other hand, a year spent carousing can be very damaging.
Whatever you decide, you will experience the consequences.
It depends on what you plan to do with your year off. If you plan to sleep late all day and party all night then no it's not a good idea. However, if you plan to help people in some way, see parts of the world you have never seen, or learn how to do something that will help you later on then it may be worthwhile to try to convince your parents. Realize that while you're "off" you will have to earn money to live and to pay for the activities you plan to do. Sit down and figure out how much money you will need, where you will earn it and how how will use it. If you are lucky you will have selected a college that has travel or internship programs and this may allow you to earn credits and still have an easier year.
