Should a college have the right to take away a female athletic scholarship if the girl gets pregnant?

Question:

maybe,I am not for sure
yeah
yes she cant play sports while pregnant
Yes cause she can't participate in her sport anymore.
no, if soo they should also do the same to the boys for having kids.
YES she cannot fill her end of the bargain! What you think they are paying for your schooling just because they like the way you play?? NO IT'S BECAUSE THEY WANTED YOU PLAYING FOR THEIR SCHOOL!! If you don't, then why should they pay you to be there?
Absolutely. Scolarships are provided to those that lead by example. They usually have stipulations such as that.
Uhh yeah unless u wanna kill the kid
Well, lets see if she cant play the sport she was given a scholarship for because she is pregnant - I wouldl say yes.

My cousin got a scholarship for baseball, he shattered one of his ankles during a agme and had to leave the school because his scholarship was revoked.
yes i think
yes
sure. you can't play for them anymore..

..if you can't play because of an injury that happened while playing, you keep your scholarship because it wasn't your fault.

i cant imagine getting knocked up during a softball game..
i believe so. You cant earn your scholarship anymore
If they can't play for said college, then yes.
Yes, Its an Athletic Scholarship, cant be to athletic in the 3rd trimester...
I would think so If shes pregnant and going to have a baby then she will not have to much time for sports
yes. how can they put you in sports when your prego. it doesnt make any sense. they dont want to be responsible if something happens to the baby. its too much of a liability.
no, but it's a atletic scholarship- to play sport airgo if she is pregnate she cant play, that was what she was supposed to do. she cant it is taken away.
Upon greater reflection, it appears that the answer depends on whether "sports" is considered a form of entertainment and therefore exempt from most employment discrimination laws.

My gut reaction is that they can't take her scholarship away because that would be a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It's illegal to fire someone because they got pregnant. That should apply to scholarship recipients whose "job" is to be student athletes. You can't discriminate against a woman because she's pregnant. The coach can prescribe a leave for her to postpone her college play based on the health of the player, but can't kick her off the team or have the scholarship taken away if the field of athletics is not exempt from anti-discrimination laws.

Beauty pageants often require a pregnant winner to resign based on their contract. Beauty pageants and other "talent" positions in the entertainment field are often exempted from discrimination laws so that they can be free to make "casting" decisions. The pregnancy must substantially affect her ability to portray the role and a provision should be in her contract. One can make that argument against the pregnant athlete. Perhaps there is a provision in Title 9 about pregnancy.
NOT TAKE AWAY, MAYBE POSTPONE
Unless she has some sort of contract that she signed that states her scholarship will be terminated if she gets pregnant, then I would say no.

That would be like terminating some guy's scholarship because he got someone knocked up.
yeah,

shes not gonna be able to play for nine months,
maybe even more after that.
Yes cause she can no longer play sports.
If the person can not compete in the sport the college should have the right . Unless the problem occurred on the field of play or practice I believe the university has every right to take away a scholarship for inability to perform regardless of reason.
Absolutely - she can no longer perform and uphold her end of the partnership with the school if she is pregnant.
The scholarship was given to the girl with the assumption that she would play the sport. If she becomes pregnant, she should not be engaging in any competitive sports where she could potentially harm the baby.
I say yes.
Absolutely. An athletic scholarship is a two-way committment. The athlete is responsible for maintaining thier body and athletic ability. Getting pregnant is obviously a violation if that committment.
Yes, because she is being given the scholarship under the assumption that she will play a certain sport. Pregnancy is something that will likely prevent her from doing that.
yea because that is against some college policys
