How to go to college and pay your bills?

Question:
I am a mother. I want to go to college. I have a ton of bills. How can I go to college full time and afford my bills without working and going to school so much that my daughter suffers? Does anyone know of any grants that cover your utilities while you go to school? FAFSA covers school plus, but it's not enough to survive on while I go to college. Child care is not a problem, because my family takes care of that. However, I do need to be able to pay my utilities, car payments, and groceries. Can I do it and go to school?

Answer:
Have been doing research on this for the past 15 months for my civic club. We sponsor a high school based youth club and their members are always in need of scholarship$$.

I have never had any luck with any of the scholarship search companies where you pay a fee. Maybe someone else has?

A lot of corporations want to be seen as "good neighbors" in the community. And they need a way to attract young workers. So some of them grant scholarships, usually from $1,500 to $10,000.

When visiting the websites of these companies, on the home page look for something like: ABOUT US or CORP INFO. Click on that, and then look for something like: COMMUNITY or COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

From my research: check out:
1. BestBuy (2 scholarships from each store for $1,500 and they enter you at their headquarters for a $10,000 scholarship).

2. Comcast (your high school principal must recommend you for a $1,000 scholarship. They also have paid internship at a limited number of locations nationwide.)

3. Cracker Barrel (www.cbrlgroup.com) for employees, or their children - $1,000

4. Kohls (each store awards $50 and a certificate; then submits their winners to the region. Regional winners receive $1,000 and are submitted to the corporate headquarters. Corporate level winners get a $5,000 scholarship and a $1,000 donation to their favorite charity.)

5. Wal-Mart (www.walmartfoundation.org) Each store awards $1,000 to 2 students at each school in their area. Or if you have been an employee for 12 months, you qualify to apply for a $2,500 scholarship.

6. McDonalds (as Ronald McDonald House Charities at: www.RMHC.ORG) varies by region of the county. But a typical award is $1,000. May be from the corporation or from an association of stores in your area.

Each of these companies have a simple application (1–2 pages) process.

Good luck.
All grants and scholarships and LOANs cover anything related to school and living.. tuition, rent, travel, daycare, food, etc.. U can apply for scholarships.. the schools have some u can apply for.. several on web also.. If u need to get food stamps while going to school... don't be afraid to do that.. and don't let anyone call u a bad person for that. As a freshman the most u can get this next year is about $10,000 with FULL loans and grants unless u can get a private grant.. Can u work just on the weekend or go to school 2 days a week and work 3 or vv.. I did that.. then I had most of the weekend with my son. I would only take 12 hours until u get use to it..depending on how old ur daughter is.. have a plan to do ur homework at the same time she does or after she goes to bed.. College is tough with a kid.. They don't understand why u spend so much time away from them.. Just know that she may have to do without u a lot for a few years but in the long run, it's better for u.. I sub taught on the days I didn't have class.. I could study then at work (some days).. If u do decide u need daycare, there is a program thru DHS that pays for that.. GL
apply for state help assistance Cut back on all spending except absolute necessities Get clothes from clothing bank or hand me downs. No fun. work until you can get through college then things can get better.
