Answer:
Your high school should have counselors who do this for a living. They would be the ones to ask - make an appointment.
There are thousands of scholarships. Some go to descendants of Civil War veterans, some to children of the local utility, some to people who excel in sports, music, art, dance. Some go to people who score well on the SAT tests. Some go to people who are willing to serve in the Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force for six years after they graduate. They are called ROTC. You get commissioned as an officer when you graduate.
There are hundreds of bogus companies who will "Help" you with your search, for a fee. Steer clear of them. Start with your high school counselor.
My daughter went to Junior College for two years. That let her live at home, saving money, and was not quite as abrupt a change from high school as a four-year college would be.
Class rank and GPA depend on the school.
If you go to Bronx Technical or Boston Latin high schools and rank in the middle of the class, colleges will fight over you. If you go to a poor inner-city school where you can make the Dean's list if you show up sober 3 days out of 5 and don't get convicted of assault, your chances of a scholarship are much less.
You have to score over 1400 on the SAT's and have a GPA of 4.2 or better (In AP classes, an "A" counts as 5, a B as 4, etc) to even get into the University of California at Berkeley, according to the counselor at my daughter's high school.
You can get money through loans and grants as well as scholarships.
It wouldn't hurt to put your application into some colleges (like state schools), especially if you've done some extracirricular activities. Or if you're really word trying community college for a year or two to raise your GPA.
anybody can go to college if they have the drive and determination. for scholarships there are scholarships for females with blond hair. there are many different scholarships you just have to know how to find them. a place to go is type scholarships into a search engine and you'll get tons of websites. good luck.
Do you play any sports? And did you dominate the ACT's? Im currently a senior in HS also and i just was accepted to Notre Dame which is a kick *** college.
those extracurricular activities will be your winners. make sure you use them (on essays) to show your leaderhship strength, ability to persevere, set and achieve goals, work well with others and moments of personal growth.
you should be able to get into state schools no prob. if your test scores arent too great i recommend taking both act andsat to see whichi you do better on or retake the sat. but some tend to do better on one than the other.
