Recommended first Credit Card for a college student?

Question:
i'm a college student looking for a credit card. i need a card that allows online banking and paying for bills, which i believe almost all do that now.

i was interested in this one...
http://www.citicards.com/cards/wv/cardde...
cause it gives me miles but i think it says that i can only use them once i reach 25,000 which is ridiculous. can anyone verify?

it also have 18% variable which is pretty high. the lowest i found for me, since im starting out and dont have credit is %14.99

any links or advice would be great. thanks.

Answer:
I hope I'm wrong but, you're taking the first step toward financial disaster.

Unless, you're aware of all the horror stories about college students suddenly finding themselves in Credit Card hell from letting balances exceed what they can pay, and then the high interest (14.99% is high) and penalties accrued really does them in.

So, just a word of caution...be careful, use the card wisely and pay off your balances monthly if you can.
Credit Cards are necessary in today's world of course, but just be careful not to abuse the privilege.
Go with a secured card. It can provide online banking etc. but will not get you in trouble.
first credit card ought to be a secured one at yuor bank give them 500 bucks you have a card make payments on it ( even though its your money in the first place) that will start your credit good then go on to bigger things but to be honest I am 38 never owned one in my life, if I don't have the cash I don't buy it..kind of cool eh?
I would recommend American Express or a secured card because they limit the amount of debt you can build up.

American Express has to be paid off in full each month. Secured cards cost less interest because they are less risky to the issuer. If you don't pay, they can tap your collateral.
How about this

I had a discover card when I was in college. I liked the cash bonus, but now I have a Shell Mastercard because I use a lot of gas.

Since you're a college student you really dont want to get into much debt. So try Capitol One, they have a variety of cards to choose from. I think they even have one for students.
Secured credit card is a type of credit card secured by a deposit account owned by the cardholder. Secured credit cards allow a person with a poor credit history or no credit history to have a credit card which might not otherwise be available.
If you decide to apply for secured credit card you can choose Orchard Bank Secured MasterCard or Millenium Bank Platinum Master Card http://www.ezpreapproval.com/secured-cre...
But secured credit card isn't only one issue. You can get unsecured credit card.
First PREMIER bank offers unsecured credit card for people with no credit history http://www.ezpreapproval.com/bad-credit-...
- First PREMIER Bank MasterCard/Visa with 9,9% APR, annual fee 48 $ (First PREMIER Bank Centennial Gold MasterCard/Visa , First PREMIER Bank Gold MasterCard/Visa are also good enaugh)
