Anyone know where to get financial help for college if you are a married woman with children?

Ladies (or men also), has anyone of you ever gone back to college after getting married and having children? I have been married for 6 years and I have 3 children, two of which are still toddlers and don't go to school yet. I am currently a stay-at-home mother, I do not work outside the home. I am interested in going back to college and getting my degree, but I am concerned with how to pay for classes as well as paying for part-time childcare for my 2 youngest children, since we are living on only my husband's income right now. Was just wondering if anyone has done this same thing and what your experiences were? Also, does anyone know of any good financial aid programs for people going back to school in my situation? Also, does anyone know if there is any way I could also get some kind of financial help with childcare while I'm in school? I have searched the web constantly, but there is very little info on married people w/ children trying to go back to school. Can anyone help? Thanks

I used FASA after my divorce to go back to college and I didn't have to pay a dime for any of it. As a single mother of 2. It is defiantly worth looking into.

Go talk to the counselor at the school and they should be able to tell you all of the scholarship and tuition assist programs that you should be eligible for. There are so many different programs out there most people can go to school for practically free nowadays.

There are several government grants that you can apply for. Try seeking a pell grant, then you won't have to pay it back. However, they do base approval on the income coming into the house hold, so if your husband is making any type of 6 figure income, you won't qualify (however if he was making 6 figures you probably wouldn't be asking for help to pay LOL). There are several grant programs and they can be applied for via the internet. google grant programs and see what you can find.

Ask people at your university/college. Where I went, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, they had a day care service and the people who worked there were students in majors like child development. I think they also had scholarships/grants, etc. for "nontraditional" students, which included students with children. If you are planning to live on campus, some universities have housing for families, SIUC did. They had special apartments with playground equipment (actually some off-campus, too) that they offered to students with families. SIUC also had very cheap health insurance for students and dependents. I had a child while I was in grad school. Because I was a student, my child was covered, too, after she was born, and they paid a huge majority of my maternity care and delivery, and I could go to any doctor I wanted for maternity care. I don't know who exactly to call, but just call the admissions office, they should be at least able to tell you who to call. Good luck!!!
