Is it worth it to go to a private college for a networking Degree?
Question:
I am having a hard time finding grants and things to suppliment to education because of the fact that it is a private college, and i am considering going to a more traditional school to decrease my out of pocket expenses and trying to get the CCNA (etc..) certs on my own time.
Help Me Please!!
As far as I can tell, the only real benefit of going to a private school seems to be that there is more of a chance of getting your foot in the door for some jobs. I think that right now network engineering is still a fledgling career path and unlike say business where the name on your degree may hold quite a bit of weight, a future employer is going to be more interested in experience than education.
That being said, the company I work for has recently hired two new employees to the IT department with the promise that both will work towards their MCSE. Neither has a college degree but both have previous experience (one in the marines and another in a different job). I think that the MCSE or similar certificate may hold more weight in the industry than a bachelors degree, but obviously it won't hurt you and the experience of going to college is something I feel everyone should get.
I suggest you save your money and go to a state school.
I know someone that got a computer programming degree at a community college and now makes six figures. Go figure.
