Private College VS Public College for Computer Networking Degree?

Question:
To all my Network Engineers out there, tell me what would be more lucrative. I am trying to decide what would be better. Attending a public, traditional, four-year institution, majoring in generic Computer Science *Bachelors Degree* at the chance of snagging a better paying and more stable job or is going to a private college and getting a bachlors of science in networking and having a degree in that speciality.

I am having a hard time finding grants and things to suppliment to education because of the fact that it is a private college, and i am considering going to a more traditional school to decrease my out of pocket expenses and trying to get the CCNA (etc..) certs on my own time.

Help Me Please!!

Answer:
I preferred to go to private school for my degree in Networking for a bunch of reasons. I preferred the hands on approach to learning everything, you learn more from doing than by being taught during a lecture. Hands on in computers is key, it helps out quite a bit. I also enjoyed the smaller class sizes because it's easier to learn in a smaller size. One other thing about the private school is that you could get your associates in Computer Science at the private school and IF it's accredited (sp?) then you can go to a public school for your bachelor's degree.

That would be my recommendation, I went for my associates at Brown College and am happy where I'm at today. They provide job placements (as do other private/tech schools) and small class sizes.
Do something like networking and microsoft stuff on your own or in tech. school, then go to a public or prv college and study something like programming or relating to one specific area within an area. I would go towards something like network security or programming, they are highest in demand jobs at the moment.
Everything depends on the school. If you major in computer science at a public school like I did at the University of Houston, you will probably end up writing software. I would suggest going to a 2 year school and majoring in Network Administration or something similar. Make sure they will be able to train you in order to get your certifications that you desire.

well, i can see your predicament...i had that too...With computer science, you will not only get to know networking, but also a bunch of other stuff such as programming, hardware and you can easily venture into artificial intelligence,ai which would be good if your thinking of masters. The degree in networking is also as good only that you will find it to be close ended thus find yourself doing the other stuff on your own. As for the public vs private school, its where your heart and your pocket leads you. Take a tour of both institutions if money's not an issue but from my experience grants are given to those who may require it the most. Between you and me, public school would be the easiest to get one (a grant ,i mean)
