Question:
My daughter gets really good grades and takes several Pre-AP classes in Junior High. She just started Junior High this year. She is starting to get resentful because of the extra load of work this year not just from the Pre-AP classes but from Junior High in general. I was thinking of allowing her to take just general classes and dropping the Pre AP classes next year. In all honesty, grades are not important to her since starting Junior High and getting that Junior High attitude. She gets good grades(mainly As with a B occasionally) because she is smart and she knows the consequences of not getting good grades in this house. My question is how important is Pre Ap and AP classes concerning getting into a good college and winning scholarships? If she took regular classes and received all As would it be enough? Also, if she didn't take Pre AP classes in Junior High could she still take AP classes in high school? I'm hoping to get pass this "attitude" before high school.
Answer:
i didn't take any pre AP classes in middle school and have so far done fine in high school AP and i'm not any sort of genious.
AP classes are designed to prepare students for college as well as giving the student a chance to think on higher levels.
Yes, the classes are hard, full of work, and definitely challenge the brain; however your daughter can earn college credit for those courses if she passes the test (which will save money) and will have learned far more valuable things other than history or English---the ability to think.
