How do I go about helping my son get a college soccer scholarship? He is a high school jr. at a small school.
Question:
Answer:
You need to get him in front of college coaches as often as possible. Here are a few tips:
1) College soccer programs do not operate with huge coaching and scouting staffs. Many talented players go unnoticed. Don't wait for them to show interest in your son - contact them and let them know he's interested.
2) Get your son on the best club team you can. I coach players who drive 2 hours to practice, and 4 hours to games on a weekly basis to play against the best competition available.
3) Get him to ODP tryouts. If he makes an ODP team, he will get to play in front of more college/professional scouts. The ODP program will also give him access to excellent coaching and training.
4) He needs to bring his level of fitness and athletic ability to the highest level possible. He needs to be able to play well with both feet, and he needs to be a solid defender. College coaches often overlook the flashy, skilled players in favor of hard working, athletic players.
5) Send him to a soccer camp at a school that he would like to play for.
I hope this helps!
If u want you can transfer him to another bigger school. If you dont want to do that then you just have to be satisfied with your sons school. Maybe if you take him to some kind of camp suring the summer they will recognize his ability at soccer.
