What do you know about NSHSS?
Question:
I am extremely college bound and hope to get scholarships to help me, but I know little about this.
I got a letter from them saying that I could get into universities easier by saying that it was a "significant acceivement" getting the award. But all I had to do was send them $45 dollars.
Please give me some information.
Answer:
I got into the organization (not that i am gullible, but because i heard from prior classmates that it was beneficial).
I cannot say that it has helped, but it certainly has not hurt in any way shape or form. I put it on my applications and got accepted to every place I applied. NSHSS is an organization that might not be the most widely known, but it is known. It is a national honor society of the high school level; thus, by showcasing it on an application I can only assume that it looks positive.
Don't do it! The organization really exists (although it's not very well known) but in no way will listing this on your application help you, it may even have a negative effect by making you look gullible and desperate. You'd be basically throwing your money away. Just let your gpa and activities speak for themselves instead of buying an "award".
