Why are there many women-only scholarships but few men-only scholarships when more women are going to college?
Question:
Answer:
Yes, it is sexist but so is paying women less for doing the same jobs men do. We are not an equal society yet all we can do is hope for improvement. When you see the opportunity to make things better for all ,do what you can. When you see inequality protest it. The squeaky oil gets the grease.
discrimination against women is illegal. but men have to fend for themselves. evidently we be a bunch of nasty bastards that need no help of any kind.
* i very much doubt if there are woman only courses or men only courses as they would be viewed very dimly and classed as predigested.
Where are you looking? There are lots of scholarships for men too, and plenty that have no gender bias - they are based purely on merit and area of study.
Well, if there were more men going to college than women, would you think it sexist if there were more men-only scholarships.
The truth is we still live in a sexist society, and one of the ways we're trying to balance things out is to give those who've been held down mor opportunity to rise up.
This wont be the answer you want to hear but the scholarship criteria is decided by the person or organization putting up the money for that scholarship. I am not sure if there are more scholarships for women than men I have never counted but mine was an academic scholarship having nothing to do with gender or race. When looking for a scholarship you should contact a headhunter there are a ton of scholarships out there that most people have never even heard of you probably were not looking for scholarships but trying to prove a point against feminists or something but just in case goggle scholarship headhunter this person may be able to help with your needs. By the way there is a new trend in scholarships which send small town students to large urban area schools called RASF (Rural American Scholarship Fund) This scholarship tends towards the white male living in rural areas and there are many more.
Maybe there just aren't as many men donating money for colleges to give scholarships for men. Women-only scholarships are usually privately funded.
I believe there are more sports scholarships for men, because women don't play football. Also, women are considered a minority.
Most scholarships are privately funded.
My guess is that most of the women-only funds were founded by women who had felt discriminated against when they were young women and who are now in a position to raise money to prevent the same thing from happening to today's young women.
Ditto for scholarship funds for people of color and homosexuals.
It's simply a case of the victim bashing back, albeit in a positive way.
Hellooooooo . wake up and smell the coffee.
Feminists march behind the banner of equality, but want no such thing. Why aren't feminists marching at universities to demand equal scholarships for men?
We know the answer. Feminists want privilege without responsibility.
i agree. the time when women were discriminated against for getting into college is over. women are doing much better than men in school, on average, and that's mostly what the schools care about these days. but people are allowed to give scholorships for whatever they want, so there's really not anything you can do... what bothers me is that universities have been using affermative action to keep their male-female ratios more even, meaning they accept less qualified men over more qualified women in order to keep things even. not fair.
