Is it possible to gain a scholorship to an American college from a different country?

Question: I live in Australia, but I'd like to go to a good American college (actually going over to America, I mean). Would I be able to get apply for a scholarship to an American college from Australia? And if so, would I have to go about it any differently than if I was in the same country?
