This was what I did. I got a job with UPS loading trucks. Part time and went to night school. Of course truck loaders are unionized, so I was in the Teamsters union. After 2 or 3 months, I applied for a Teamsters scholarship which I got. I continued to work 5 hours a day in the evenings and started going to day school. Later I bacame a truck driver doing the Pittsburgh - Akron route - still 5 hours per day part time.
I got my masters (computer science) and was awarded an assistentship to teach grad students which I turned down because truck driving pays more. The 5 hours of driving per day, I listen to study tapes, well sometimes rock & roll but its a good way to study. 2 years ago I got my PhD.
