I was in the top 10% of my graduating class of over 750 students. I got a scholarship from my elementary school PTA association and another one from a local business. I got these by filling out a form from my highschool guidance counselor. They considered things like grades, honors, community service, extracurriculars, etc.
Then when I went to college, my grades qualified me for a bunch of scholarships. I received one scholarship for $1500/yr. I was also invited to go to a schoolwide scholarship competition where we did group activities and had to write an essay. Then the admissions officers determined how much to give each participant. Some students got a full ride, but I was given $1800/yr.
I was really active on campus, so during my junior year a teacher nominated me and I got another $500 scholarship.
Just try to make good grades and be really involved with extracurricular activities.

I was at the top of my class for most of elementary school and junior high. I started out strong in high school, but fell back to something like 8th place. I sent out a bunch of applications to different colleges, wrote essays and took every scholarship test I could find, and ended up with full rides to 3 different colleges. Talk to your guidance counselor about any scholarship they know about. Contact the college(s) you want to go to and ask them about any scholarship programs. Finally, go to www.fastweb.com and fill out a profile there; it will give you many opportunities for scholarships. Good luck!
I got several scholarships but I wasn't the top of my school. I graduated in June in the top 10%. You have to check with your guidance counselor or search a website like www.fastweb.com where you fill out a bunch of information about yourself and then they'll send you scholarships that match your stuff. There are millions of scholarships out there and you're bound to be able to find one for you. There are several that are small amounts like $100-200 but all the money you can get helps. Also, try for grants from your state. My personal experience: it was a long and grueling process with a lot of typing essays and crap about myself. Good luck!
i was number 2 in a class of 100 just want to add that i was only point 4 off and my best friend got 1
I was 3rd in my class ( there where 2 people "tied" for first) and i didnt get a scholorship. the people who got scholorships at my schools where all athletes. it sucks but. what are you gonna do.
