Can you change the race on your birth certificate?
Question:
I don't think you have to change your race on your birth certificate for those scholarships. To determine if you are eligible for tribal membership, contact your ancestral tribe. Individual tribes determine tribal membership and Native American status.
Maybe you could just point that fact out to the powers that be. Maybe they will just go on your word. Or maybe if you have the birth certificate of your Mom or Dad and theirs say that they have Native heritage. You will never know until you ask them. But falsifying your birth certificate could get you some unwanted time in the federal penitentiary. May God Bless U.
In order to receive a scholarship intended for Native Americans you must have your Native Status. This means that you must go to the Tribe that you descend from and prove that you are in fact of their tribe by at least a certain percent. Then you will be instated in the tribe. You then must apply to the US government for your Native Status. Then you may apply for those scholarships. After that you will lose certain rights as a US citizen and be tracked through the rest of your life by The government agencies that still refer to Native Americans in the same category as cattle. Your children will also be burdened with this same fate.
Walk a mile in my moccasins and choose carefully what you would do for a free education. And yes I am offended that you would try to change your birth certificate race to get free money even though there are as many scholarships for African Americans. When I have no choice, I was born Native American and have no way to gain those freedoms that you take for granted!
It depends on the state you were born in. Alabama states anyone born after 1991 will receive non-racial birth certificates. If you want to request a non-racial birth certificate there and you were born before that date, you must apply to make a change, then you will be issued a new non-racial birth certificate. It may defeat your purpose in applying for scholarships though. This is a very tough issue as I am also multiracial and would like to find a happy medium with the birth certificate change.
Do American birth certificates really have your race stated on it?? No offense but you guys are really way too obsessed with race over there i think
It would depend on the state where you were born. I know that in Florida, where I live, you can change the race on your birth certificate -IF- you can provide some sort of supporting documentation (such as a Native American tribal document, or your parents' birth certificates showing their race). You would need to contact the Vital Statistics or Vital Records office in the state you were born.
